Identifying hearing concerns early — when it matters most
Since launching our school screening programme in 2019, we’ve seen concerning trends in how young people are exposed to sound. Our 2025 data shows students are using headphones for 5–7 hours a day, often at unsafe volumes — with 20% listening at maximum levels.
Early warning signs are already present. Across 2023–2025, an average of 23% of students reported ringing in their ears (tinnitus), indicating their hearing may already be under strain.
To date, we’ve screened more than 40,000 students across Aotearoa, helping identify potential issues early and supporting safer listening habits for life.
